Life's Been Good to me So Far

I have had a good life so far. No real complaints, nothing I would consider a deep regret. I have good friends, good family, a good job, a great dog, good health and over all, I am on course to fulfill my life's goals. I am blessed and I know it and I am thankful for it.

During this 2006 election season I am struck by the negative tone of candidate's advertisements. All of them. Negative. Nothing positive at all. I have not seen one ad that touts the positive aspects of the candidate endorsing the ad. Every one has a negative slant about the opponent. Is this really helpful to anyone? I think not.

It's hard to select a candidate when all the talk is negative. Vote for the lesser of two evils. Seems to be the way the political landscape has been moving for awhile. It's hard to stay positive when all you hear is negativity. How about some "hooray for mes" now and then?

I don't see much benefit to anyone through constant campaign criticism. My mother taught me that if you have nothing nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all. I don't like most of the politicians I see campaigning. I don't say much about them. There's no point to it really. Why is everyone so focused on what isn't instead of what is?

Criticism is easy. Everybody seems to like to talk smack about someone else. Why not tell me about yourself instead. Why are you a good person? What would you do in office? Tell me why you deserve to have my vote. Don't tell me why someone else does not deserve to have it.

The human brain has trouble processing the concept of "not". I think God did this intentionally. We should focus our energies on positives not negatives. I am glad for what I have. I am not sorry for things I do not have. It isn't productive to be negative. No one likes to hear negativity all day every day. Switch your point of view.

I am thankful for my life. I am thankful for my parents who raised me to be a productive, decent human being. I am thankful for the way my decisions have turned out. I don't have anything that I sincerely wish I had done differently. I could never be sure that if I changed even some simple aspect of my life so far that it would have turned out any better. I have made my share of mistakes and I am thankful for them. Mistakes are good. Mistakes teach us volumes.

There are so many things to gripe about in today's fast-paced, negatively slanted world. I do my share of griping and much of it appears in this blog. But today I am not griping. Today I am simply thankful to be here. I am not always this way but that's OK. Focus on the positive.

Life has been berry, berry good to me. So Far!
