Faith in the Market

"The basic idea is that if we put our blind faith in the market and we let corporations do whatever they want and we leave everybody else to fend for themselves, then America somehow automatically is going to grow and prosper."

Barack Obama, October 2010

Yessir, that is the basic idea alright. Free markets work. Government planning does not. Period.

For many, many long years the free market functioned well in this society. When things start going wrong is when bureaucrats think they know a better solution, meaning government intervention. This is a very false assumption. Markets work when they are free to innovate, not held to rigid standards by a government that demands influence.

The only thing I would change with Obama's statement is the word "blind". There is no blindness in free market economies. Everyone is doing things to benefit themselves and in the process everybody else benefits. Yes, there is faith, but it is not blind. It may appear to be "willy-nilly" to use a Hillary Clinton phrase, but there is a method to it's madness.

People make economic decisions based on their own personal situations and what they see coming in the future. When their decisions are taken away from them, think health care, for one, they are less likely to buy in to that strategy. And to rebel against it as we have seen leading up to today's election.

President Obama is doing all the things he feels necessary to grow the influence of government and lessen the influence you have upon your own life. This is so wrong-headed and will only lead to a weakening of our country and eventual destruction of our way of life.

Whether Mister Obama thinks there is such a thing as American Exceptionalism, and I think it's clear he does not, it does exist and it exists because we ARE a different kind of country. We do not have the course of our lives charted by the government. Oh sure, many folks do, but they are the lazy and the indolent and they will always be around.

True American Exceptionalism comes from the freedoms we have in our country. And our freedoms are not given by government, they are given by God. The government only gets in the way when its leaders try to help with their pet programs. Let the American people go and we will once again become an exceptional country.

No thanks to President Obama.

OH.
